Our Project

In Western science, the field of ecology is historically rooted in white, cis, male perspectives. These dominant groups continue to overshadow BIPOC, queer, and other marginalized identities that offer unique insights in ecology.  In our Colorado College courses, we noticed that the overwhelming majority of assigned papers were written by white men. This project is a small, but impactful step, to shift the culture in ecology by providing a working database that brings visibility to marginalized voices in ecology. Our working database is intended to be an accessible resource for researchers and educators to de-centralize white views in their teaching and research. Search the database to find out more about the individual ecologists we have highlighted! Additionally, over the course of the 2023-2024 academic year, we will be interviewing and highlighting the work and experiences of certain ecologists. Check out the blog to read the interviews!
